I gotta say, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be when I walked in. Unfortunately the only updates you get and ticket numbers in a TV screen. I'm sure this is typical of most government offices.
My father passed away this month, and I'm trying to help my mother do what's necessary to finalize his affairs. We went to SSA on Wednesday only to find they close at noon on Wednesdays. What??? So today (Thursday) I called to get an appointment, waited an hour to speak to a human, only to be told they couldn't make an appointment because I didn't have my mothers" SS#. Asked if there was any other way I was told no and would have to wait in the eternal cue again once I got the number. Unbelievable.
Nice staff, waiting time is a little bit too long.
My one suggestion would be to increase communication, from the speaker that I at times couldn't hear, to updates and estimated wait times would be helpful. Overall I was pleased with my trip there.
A highlight was how friendly most of the staff seemed. Most of them were understanding and helpful.
Not sure what to make of the "Security Guard" who was sitting down and on his phone my whole stay there lol. Aside from that I went during my one hour lunch break and was able to be seen and get what I needed to be done in a good amount of time. The staff member who helped me was very pleasant and I received my new card in the same week.
